Draft King Analysis
When the Colts kept trading down and trading down, I figured they had something clever in store. But in the end, I was rather underwhelmed. Bob Sanders at #44 is not what I expected as the payoff on a team with Idrees Bashir, Mike Doss and Cory Bird all on the roster at the safety position. I figured it was a ploy to snag Darnell Dockett.. but apparently the Colts feel secure with its DT situation. I don't share their security.
Making matters worse, the Colts took Ben Hartsock in Round 3. I like Hartsock (he was a heartbreaker for Ohio State opponents while playing for the Buckeyes), but the Colts used a first round pick last year on Dallas Clark (pissing away a chance at DT William Joseph, who went one pick later to the New York Giants) and they also have the highly talented Marcus Pollard at TE. Remember that the Colts use many two TE sets, and the Colts were put in a tight spot last season when Clark went on IR.
One nice decision by the Colts was to go with a pair of skilled outside linebackers in Gardner and Pope. They lost Marcus Washington to the Redskins, and had to find help in the draft to fill that huge hole.
I do wonder this: why did the Colts take Penn State kicker David Kimball when their incumbent PK didn't miss a single field goal in 2003?
