My latest 2027 NFL Mock Draft is now online.
October 5, 2026
My latest 2027 NFL Mock Draft will be coming early Tuesday. I have a tentative mock now, but there is plenty still to go on my list of things to read coming out of the weekend.
Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith will be my projected #1 overall selection to the Houston Texans, using the order on Tankathon. I'm not sure if I've ever actually projected a wide receiver at #1 overall in a mock going all the way back to the beginning.
Demand for top quarterback talent makes this challenging. The last time a wide receiver went #1 overall was Keyshawn Johnson to the New York Jets in 1996. It has only happened three times in NFL history.
But Smith is a special player, and it's unclear how the fifth year of eligibility will impact the quarterbacks who have the option to stay in college for 2027.
Notable players on the rise:
1,438 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, zero interceptions. I've jokingly referred to Miami as having a finishing school for exceptional quarterback prospects, but there's truth in humor.
Mensah is having a monster year, and particularly with Oregon QB Dante Moore suffering a vicious cheap-shot hit that knocked him out against USC, Mensah's name is showing up more and more near the top of quarterback draft lists.
Dominant interior lineman. Johnson has the size to play tackle but the agility to work inside effectively. Especially great as a pass-blocker, which is going to be a commonality among most of the top offensive line prospects.
Great size for the position (6'2" 205) and exceptional at forcing pass deflections. Really good tackler as well.
Cole is a remarkable tackler who can play off-ball linebacker or EDGE if needed. Great versatility with the potential to shine as an NFL pass-rusher in the right system.

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas gave up a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional 2027 sixth-round selection in the deal.
Porter, 26, was a first-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 2023 NFL Draft. He had hoped to land a contract extension before the season, much like several others from that draft class received over the summer.
When that didn't materialize, it led to an impasse.
Dallas apparently outbid the Detroit Lions, and likely others, to land Porter.
Tony Romo is out at CBS. His OWI arrest this past summer was the final straw, but his work had been in decline over recent years and he had a massive contract.
After retirement from the Dallas Cowboys, Romo got the megapush as an announcer in the #1 color spot at CBS next to Jim Nantz in 2017.
Romo immediately revolutionized the color commentator role by being able to read and explain what was going to happen before it happened with remarkable accuracy. He fit great with Nantz, who granted can work well with anyone, plus it allowed CBS to use Phil Simms in a studio role which IMO was a better fit for him.
But then COVID hit, and the further Romo got from his active career, the less he was able to use his unique predictive skills. There seemed to be other problems as well.
Fortunately, JJ Watt has performed superbly alongside Nantz and appears set to fill the role going forward.
Last night's Cleveland Browns 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers was a highly entertaining game. The Browns are 3-1 on the season and have some skilled young receiving talent.
It's awkward with QB Deshaun Watson in a lame-duck situation, but Watson is finally healthy and throwing with the type of accuracy he hasn't shown since his time with the Houston Texans.
