This is my final update, at 10:55 PM Central Time from my parents' house in Nashville; I'm visiting home for the weekend. This reflects the surprising news of the Houston Texans deciding to take Mario Williams #1 overall, passing on Reggie Bush.
Those of you who supported Matt Leinart going back to USC for the 2005 season can stick it. I said it was a bad idea at the time, since he was all but guaranteed to be taken by the San Francisco 49ers at #1 in the 2005 Draft.
Now? I saw a mock draft by Dennis Dodd on Sportsline that had Leinart falling all the way to Detroit at #9 in the 2006 NFL Draft. I doubt he'll fall *that* far, but still, Leinart's not going #1 this year.
I understand the idea of adding to his legacy and his 1.5 national titles, but realistically he put his body through another year of competitive football, for free (his scholarship covered a ballroom dancing class), so he could drop in the following year's draft.
Don't think I'm picking on Leinart, though. He'll be a great pickup for whichever team ends up with him.
