I moved from the outskirts of Birmingham to the Nashville area this past weekend -- my timing is impeccable, eh? The draft is almost here... get ready for some fireworks.

Subject: cowboys
with the draft closing in on us i have been checkin sites daily while i was on yahoo i was reading the cowboys are still consideing dealing with juilus jones and i heard new about dealing with greg ellis i was just wonding what you think they could get for each one of them with broncos cutting they lb wilson would they go for ellis. as always great site lou later
Lou: I haven't heard much talk lately about the Cowboys trading Julius Jones; perhaps there will be some action on that front as the draft approaches, or Dallas will deal him if they are able to land a running back they really like in round 2 or 3, but talk on that front has quieted. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went on the record last month saying he "doesn't see that happening" in regards to trading Jones this off-season. So take that as you will.

Subject: Brady Quinn?
Hey Lou, I think everybody agrees Brady Quinn has the most to gain and lose
in this month's draft. I still beleive that there is an outside chance that
Lane Kiffin might want to take him first overall but ultimately the pick is
up to Al Davis. But I really think the Browns have a real love for the guy.
He'd do everything in his power to change the Browns franchise from
perennial cellar-dwellers to championship contenders. I think Charlie Weiss
has Romeo Crennel's ear on just how good this guy is and that they could
easily address the backfeild with a hidden gem in the 2nd or even 3rd round.
I see you have the Vikings taking him which essentially means they're
already giving up on Jackson. Although last year was good drama with Reggie
Bush, Vince Young, and Matt Leinhart I think this years' top 10 picks are
gonna be something nobody will want to miss. What are your thoughts on the
Brownies taking Quinn and then possibly a Michael Bush, Tony Hunt or Antonio
Pittman in rd. 2 or 3?
Lou: You could say the same thing about Adrian Peterson relative to having something to gain (or lose) in the draft, particularly when it comes to being a top three pick or falling to seven (or below.) I'm not sure that Quinn is a greater first round question mark than Ted Ginn, Jr., but we'll see.
The Browns are in a nice position knowing that, if JaMarcus Russell and Calvin Johnson go 1-2 (which I would think is the most likely scenario at this point), they can choose between Brady Quinn and Adrian Peterson. Either one should fit nicely into the team's offense, and it's too close to call what Cleveland will do. I give a slight edge to Peterson, since he is such a strong prospect (and there will be quality QBs on the board in rounds two and three), but Quinn is still very much in the running, at least from what I've observed.

Subject: Chiefs tactics
As the draft gets closer it is starting to appear that the chiefs are setting themselves up to draft a wideout. My problem is although they have a definite need at WR they would be better served to try and clean up their O-line. the chiefs who struggled to find a solid left and right tackle last year now also need to replace the amazing right guard Will Shields and (most likely) centre Casey Wiegmann. Would they not be served better by taking the centre from USC Ryan Kalil, guard Jason Blalock or tackle Joe Staley?
The chiefs struggled with protection last year and with the likely starting new QB being Brodie Croyle protection should be the main focus? Even the best WR would be useless if the QB (especially an inexperienced one) didn't have enough time to get him the ball.
Lou: The Chiefs could very easily end up drafting an offensive lineman in the first round -- that development wouldn't surprise me at all. Staley I think makes the most sense at their spot, though Blalock is a possibility. Kalil at center would be a bit of a reach there, though some see him as a borderline first rounder. Staley's stock is rising and him going to Kansas City at #23 would make sense.
Kansas City needs a WR, but depending on who's on the board, they might opt to wait until round two (or later) and make sure that the offensive line is secure. It's no secret that the Chiefs are holding out for a second round pick for Trent Green; that might not be realistic, but a third round selection in exchange for Green would give them even more latitude to wait on taking a wideout and possibly getting a value guy (probably someone with size but not blazing speed) later in that first day.
But if Dwayne Jarrett is still there at #23... he'd be mighty tough to pass up, I'd think.
