Subject: 2007 Mock Draft Article
I think you meant the Tampa Bay Bucs, not the Devil Rays, in your article. The D-Rays continue to struggle !!
Lou: To paraphrase a certain famous QB, I couldn't care less if the D-Rays are strugggggling.
Actually, I really did mean the Devil Rays. I lived in Tampa from 2001-2006 and I saw the Rays suffer with an unfair situation (whereas the Bucs were mostly good while I was there.) If the Giants outspent the Buccaneers 5-to-1, how do you think that would turn out over the long haul? Thank goodness for Wellington and Jack Mara's vision in allowing for the sharing of television revenue equally among all franchises, which has helped the NFL to have such strong parity and allow every franchise to potentially win a championship, regardless of its market. Major League Baseball cannot make the same claim.

lou wont the draft order change when the patriots win the super bowl .
doesnt the superbowl winner pick last
Lou: If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, then their first round pick would take place at the #32 spot. It's a bit presumptuous to say that New England *will* win it, though. Also, the Patriots will pick at #22 with the Seattle Seahawks' first round pick, acquired in exchange for Deion Branch.

Subject: Cowboys
I have never been the biggest fan of taking linemen in the first round unless out of desperation. With the lack of production from the linemen I just cant see spending the top picks on one. The Cowboys season started miserably with Bledsoe at the helm and an aging line blocking for him. Then comes in Romo who, with his mobility, makes you forge about the slowness of the line. True everything fell apart at the end. I would rather see the Cowboys take a WR or a FS at this spot. I like Dwayne Bowe/WR/ LSU . Most sites have him going in the 2nd round, but with his combination of size, speed and intelligence, I think he is the guy to eventually be the number 1 when T.O. is no more and Terry Glenn retires. I think if he has a good combine he could easily work himself into the mid to late 1st round. I also like Michael Griffin/S/TEX ,
since we all have seen he can pretty much do it all both safeties and the CB position. I do believe cowboys need help at O-line but I think that there will still be quality linemen come the 2nd and 3rd rounds for example, Harris/ND, Staley/C.MICH, Otto/Purdue. Lou, I'm begging ya tell me that the Cowboys picking linemen in the first round just isnt the
best move.
Lou: WR is a possibility for the Cowboys, to be sure. The question is: will Dallas take a player like Jeff Samardzija, Dwayne Bowe, or Ted Ginn, Jr. if one or more of them is on the board?
I could imagine a scenario where Dallas takes a lineman in round one and then drafts a WR in round two, though it could obviously be just as easily reversed. I think it comes down to what player among the need positions Dallas likes the best when their pick comes up.

Subject: HOW MANY PICKS DOES DALLAS HAVE?
How many draft picks does Dallas have. I think it is about 9-10, but not sure from who, or what order. You doing the Bubba The Love Sponge show this year?
Lou: Dallas has its picks in rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. Dallas' sixth rounder went to Kansas City as part of the trade for Scott Fujita in 2005.
Dallas holds two other teams' 7th round picks: the NY Jets (obtained in exchange for Sean Ryan) and the New Orleans Saints (obtained in exchange for Scott Shanle.) By my count, that makes 8 picks.
As for Bubba the Love Sponge, I left Bubba's show (and the radio business altogether) in March 2006, so I doubt that I'll be on his program this year. I did an interview with ESPN Radio in South Bend, Indiana last year, and I might end up doing some radio interviews this year depending on if any show is interested in having me on as a guest.
Bubba has a great show, though, and between the NFL radio broadcasts, Bubba, Howard Stern, etc., if you don't have Sirius, you're missing out on some great programming. Sirius is the best entertainment value around.

Subject: Hawaii QB
Where do you see the QB from Hawaii going? What round?
Lou: Obviously, in the time since this e-mail was received, Colt Brennan decided to return to Hawaii for another year. I think this was a smart move, as Brennan really needs to add some bulk. At 6'3" he falls into the prototype height range for an NFL QB, and with 15-20 more pounds of muscle, he'd be more able to bounce back from hits at the NFL level.
For 2008 it looks like Brian Brohm and Colt Brennan are the early favorites for the top QB spot, but first things first with the 2007 Draft.

Are you high? The Raiders are taking Russell. Brady Quinn isn't much better than Eli Manning or Phillip Rivers. Russell will grade out higher than Vick, Culpepper, or McNabb ever did. I know Vick sucks but still.
Lou: No, I'm not high. The feedback from you (and others) that JaMarcus Russell will go over Brady Quinn has not fallen on deaf ears. And last year, the Raiders had a chance to take Matt Leinart and passed on him, so maybe Al Davis will go with the cannon arm (Russell) vs. the total package (Quinn) with the #1 pick.
Also, don't discount the possibility of the Raiders going with a non-QB at the #1 spot. Between the combine and the workouts, there is quite a bit of evaluation to be done, and I imagine that the Raiders are nowhere near having decided on who will be taken at the top spot. I imagine that Mr. Davis will worry about that after he decides who will replace Art Shell as the team's head coach.
