I visit your site on a daily basis. Today I read that you have the Eagles taking Leonard Pope in the first round. I was just wandering what leads you to believe that they would waist their pick on a tight end when they have a top 7 tight end now. The Eagles have many other needs mostly at the line of scrimmage, on both sides of the ball. If you have the time could you just send me a email back with a explanation?

Lou: In my haste to get that mock draft completed, I didn't look fully at the Eagles' roster. L.J. Smith is an important piece of their offense, but I penciled them in with a "surprise" pick in Pope. But I overlooked the fact that the Eagles signed Bengals free agent TE Matt Schoebel to a five-year deal, which negates the likelihood of them taking a tight end, even as a "surprise guy", at the #14 spot.

Guess that means I need to redo the mock draft...

Hey Lou, I can see moving Kampman over and letting Williams dominate. The Packers did sign DT Ryan Pickett to replace Jackson a couple of weeks ago. That would be a hell of a defensive line. Thanks for the quick reply!

Lou: You're right about the Packers signing Ryan Pickett. I missed that one during my whirlwind move from Tampa to the Birmingham area, and ESPN's Green Bay Packers "clubhouse" page fails to list it as well. See, this is where the readers help me out.

But even with Pickett, I think it works... and actually it just makes for a stronger argument. Looking at the Packers DTs, you won't be overly impressed: Cullen Jenkins and Corey Cole were undrafted free agent pickups, while Corey Williams was a sixth round pick. Sure, they're servicable players -- as backups. But a front four consisting of Pickett and Aaron Kampman at DT and Mario Williams and KGB at DE would be a real treat to watch... unless you're pulling for the other team. It's not going to be easy to run against that front, and they can bring the heat (which will be especially evident if the Packers take a speedster OLB like Thomas Howard somewhere in the draft.)
