Who I Am
I am
Lou Pickney, the curator behind
DKDB. I have spent years studying the mock draft ecosystem, tracking analyst tendencies, comparing methodologies, and learning which voices consistently bring real insight to the table. DKDB is the result of that work: a place where fans can quickly find the mocks that are worth reading.
My job is to help people navigate the overwhelming amount of draft content published every year and highlight the analysts who take the work seriously.
Why I Started DKDB
The draft world is full of great thinkers, but it is also full of noise. As the number of mock drafts exploded, it became harder for fans to separate thoughtful analysis from low effort content. I wanted a place that did not just list mocks, but evaluated them.
DKDB was built to:
• surface high quality mocks
• reward analysts who show real methodology
• help fans avoid low signal content
• provide a curated index with clear standards
It is not about volume. It is about value.
How I Evaluate Mocks
My approach is rooted in methodology, reasoning, track record, consistency, and effort. I look for analysts who explain their picks, understand team tendencies, respect positional value, update responsibly, and show their work.
When I evaluate mock drafts, I look for analysts who show their work: clear reasoning, understanding of team tendencies, and respect for positional value. I’m drawn to mocks that teach you something, not just list names.
I talk through this process regularly on my YouTube @MockDraftNFL channel, where I break down trends, compare mocks, and explain why certain analysts stand out.
My Philosophy
I created DKDB because the mock‑draft landscape has become crowded and uneven. My goal is to highlight the analysts who consistently bring insight, methodology, and thoughtful reasoning to their work.
I believe good mocks teach you something. I believe methodology matters more than one year accuracy. I believe transparency builds trust. I believe curation is a service. I believe the best analysts are consistent, not loud.
DKDB reflects those values. It is selective by design.
For more on how mocks are selected, see How DKDB Works.
How DKDB and @MockDraftNFL on YouTube Work Together
The site is the index. The channel is the commentary. On YouTube, I explain why certain mocks are included, highlight analysts who are doing strong work, break down trends across the draft landscape, and discuss what makes a mock high signal.
The site and the channel reinforce each other. One provides the list; the other provides the reasoning.
What I Want DKDB to Be
My goal is for DKDB to be the most trusted, human curated guide to NFL mock drafts, a place where fans know they are getting thoughtful recommendations backed by clear reasoning and consistent standards.
In a world where anyone can publish a mock draft, and AI can publish thousands, DKDB exists to highlight the work that stands out.
