Subject: Bucs Draft Strategy
I had a couple of questions as to what the Bucs will do with their picks. As
you know they have the #4 pick as well as two picks in round two (#35 and
#64 via Indy). I am hoping and praying that Calvin Johnson is available to
them at the 4 pick and all signs seem to be pointing that way. As for the
second round I think the defense could really use a player like Paul
Posluszny from Penn St. or Brandon Meriweather out of Miami (FL). My
question is, what do you think the chances are of the Bucs landing either of
those players and if so at what position do you think they would take them?
Also, if you don't feel they will go in that direction, who else do you
think they will consider with their two second round picks. Thanks for your
time, you do an awesome job with your site! Any feedback would be greatly
appreciated!
Lou: The Bucs should be thrilled with the possibility of landing Calvin Johnson, but they shouldn't bank on it happening. Johnson's stock continues to rise, and it's still entirely possible that Oakland could take him at #1 overall. The entire mock draft is predicated on Oakland taking JaMarcus Russell, and while that still looks like the most likely scenario, there has been no firm indication out of Oakland that this will happen. And after last year, it should be clear that nothing is for certain until it's locked into place.
CJ, Posluszny, and Meriweather would be one great draft. Good luck on seeing Posluszny fall that far, though. I could see Tampa going for an undersized but speedy linebacker (someone like Alabama's Juwan Simpson) and a safety like Meriweather would be a great fit for the Bucs.

Subject: Brady Quinn
hello. I dont see Houston drafting Quinn. If they get Plummer, as rumored, then I dont think they will put him in the same situation in which he failed in DEN, ie, with the young gun looking over his shoulder. On the other hand, I can see Quinn going to MIN, who would be silly to leave their immediate future in the hands of a marginal QB prospect. If not MIN then I guess MIA at #9.
Its interesting because teams that have high draft picks got there because they have pressing needs. So one of these teams will have choose between Quinn, who represents some risk, as opposed to more sure fire talent, especially on the defensive line.
If Quinn is on the board at #6 then I see a trade. WAS could use some picks, or a vet and a pick.
Lou: If Houston wants Brady Quinn, the last thing the team would want to do would be to broadcast that to the rest of the league. What if the Plummer rumor is a red herring to get people thinking that the Texans won't take Quinn... and then Houston snatches him right up?
I'd think LaRon Landry would be a great fit for the Texans, but a talent like Quinn might be too much to pass up.

Enough with Darrelle Revis! Pittsburgh needs a pass-rushing MANIAC!!!!!!! like Jarviss Moss, Spencer or Moses. What ya think?
Lou: If the plan is for Pittsburgh to shift into a Cover 2 defense, then a pass rushing DE would make sense. Revis is a strong CB prospect who would could be a solid performer in the Steelers secondary for years to come, though if Pittsburgh really is planning to move toward a Cover 2, then I would concur that it'd be Revis out and a pass rusher into that spot.

Subject: MOCK
hey i saw your mock and as a bengals fan, there is now way in hell we take a f***ing TE we need D. but overall yours is a better mock ive seen
Lou: The idea of the Bengals taking Greg Olsen has not resonated well with some fans (trust me.) You're right that defense needs to be addressed by Cincinnati, but a speedy tight end with good receiving skills could help take their offense to another level. Ultimately the Bengals may go defense because Olsen won't be available (if Carolina takes him at #14.)

Subject: COWBOYS DRAFT
Hey Lou how's it been? Just wanted to say I love the sight. I know
there is wide spread speculation of Dallas choosing a corner with the
1st pick and moving Henry to FS. With the money already wrapped up in
our secondary I just cant see that happening. I believe our best option
is to see if anyone in the top of round 2 is trying to trade back in to
the 1st round, and pick up maybe and extra 1st for next year or a couple
2nds. If we stand pat though I believe we have to either go with
Blalock or a guy like Bowe at WR. This draft is pretty deep at corner
and safety. I believe the most underrated corner in the draft is Chris
Houston from Arkansas. I'm sure we could get him in the bottom of the
second. If not a guy like Meriweather should still be available just
due to character concerns. I strongly believe our best pick would be
Blalock. Then FS, then WR. Someone like that kid Yamon Figurs who lit
up the combine with a 4.3 could be developmental as a 3rd rounder. What
are your thoughts?
Lou: I'm not sure that the whole "character issue" with Meriweather would necessarily be the same wide Wade Phillips as it would have been until Bill Parcells.
Maybe trading down would be in Dallas' best interest, though the WR prospects that will be on the board may be what the Cowboys are looking for. I think Justin Blalock to Dallas makes a great deal of sense, but free agency will reveal if that is a viable possibility.
Yamon Figurs did time insanely fast, but he is so small (174 pounds) that I don't know if he is the viable long-term starter that the Cowboys need to get out of day one of the draft.

Subject: Olson
There is no way Cincinnati picks a TE in the first round. They need a CB, DT, and S.
I think you need to sober up and pick again.
Lou: See what I mean about the dissent on that Greg Olsen projection? People not just disagreeing, but disagreeing angrily. Maybe the Bengals should take note.
